Notes from Around the League- Rivalry Week Edition
  • Tesus Crusades features an impressive collection of talent in three major categories: he has two of the top 3 backs in the league (Ray Rice and Jamaal Charles), two of the top 5 tight ends (Owen Daniels and Heath Miller), and two of the top three defenses (Houston and Arizona).
  • The Real McCoy, out of the four players represented in the top five in their respective categories, has three of them that are near the top of their respective categories that were all drafted after the 5th round.
  • Gothams Reckoning, the #1 team in the league, has zero top 5 tight ends, defenses or runningbacks. Also, he has two of the top 5 wide receivers in the league on his team (Green and Harvin).
  • Here is a tracker of all the first round draft picks thus far in the season: 1. Arian Foster (#1 in RB ppg), 2. Ray Rice (#2 in RB ppg), 3. LeSean McCoy (# in RB ppg), 4. Aaron Rodgers (#5 in QB ppg), 5. Tom Brady (#5 in QB ppg), 6. Chris Johnson (#31 in RB ppg), 7. Calvin Johnson (#6 in WR ppg), 8. Darren McFadden (#17 in RB ppg), 9. Matt Forte (#18 in RB ppg)**NOTE: has been injured, so clearly having a good season, and 10. Drew Brees (#1 in QB ppg).
  • As a result, the worst pick so far in 2012 of the first round goes to..........Show Me Your TDs for selecting the #31 RB through 5 weeks, Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans. The best draft pick, despite Arian Foster's gaudy 20.8 ppg at #1 overall, has to go to Brax To Da Max selecting QB Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints.

Rivalry Games

Along with a new league comes great rivalries in the making. Most managers have known each other for a long time while others are still getting to know one another. It will be exciting to see how these rivalries unfold throughout the season. Rivalries are as follows (In no particular order):

1. The Real McCoy vs Brax To Da Max

This rivalry has been shaping up for years as these two were roommates in college for 4 years. Brian Johnson, manager of The Real McCoy has been known to fly under the radar as far as smack talk. However, Brax To Da Max brings the smack talk out of this "untalkative" manager whether it be in football, basketball, or a friendly debate. Manager Demetrius "Train" Hill never backs down from a challenge and is well known for his smack talk. You can be sure that these two managers will go back and forth all season long as both are competitive and ask a lot out of their respective teams.

2. Gothams Reckoning vs Tesus Crusades

Similar to the above rivalry, these two managers have been roommates in the past. While both managers respect one another to death, things can often get heated between the two. Neither manager is afraid to say how they feel and that should bring out the best of them in this rivalry. Both have been successful managers in past leagues and have competed against one another in fantasy football before. Look for both managers to try to become dominant over the other as this year unfolds.

3. Perpetual Dynasty vs El Pollo Loco

These two managers have gotten to know one another while being colleagues at work. They both "know there stuff" and have yet to face one another in a fantasy league. Manager Steven Miller is known to be a dominate fantasy football manager, but you can be sure that Josh isn't going to give anything away. This is one of the more intriguing rivalries as people don't know what to expect.

4. ShowMeYour TDs vs Beaus N Hoes

Again, these two managers have lived with one another. They have also competed against each other in fantasy before. These managers know how to get under each other's skin, and look for both of them to exploit that during this season. Manager "Bo" is one with immense knowledge of the NFL but others shouldn't disregard Zach when it comes to fantasy knowledge either.

5. La Flama Blanca vs aTeamToBeNamedLater (Note: Not actual name)

This is another interesting rivalry as these two have gotten to know one another through trips to Pirate baseball games. These trips have started to brew a rivalry that has much room to grow. As one of the more unfamiliar rivalries, these two managers should be active in smack talk so the other rivalries don't overshine them.
